About the Commission

The National Performance Management Advisory Commission is developing a comprehensive, conceptual framework for public sector performance management.  The framework is intended to assist governments in designing new performance measurement and management systems and provide practical strategies for successfully implementing and sustaining performance management efforts.  It is expected that the work of the Commission will:

  • Create a list of value based principles that apply to all applications of performance management
  • Define public sector performance management using a common language that allows the more rapid advancement of the field.
  • Identify practices that are characteristic of successful performance measurement and management and highlight specific examples within government where these practices are displayed
  • Emphasize the value of evidence-based and data-driven decision-making in effectively delivering government services

The framework will also reflect the issues and challenges associated with the developing, implementing, and sustaining performance management systems from a broad range of perspectives including elected and appointed officials and program and operational managers.
